Minecraft is the perfect example for a game needing such settings. System Shock 1 had 4 different sliders (each with, I think, 4 settings): Combat, Cyber. Quotation marks because I don't just mean difficulty-specific adjustments. I hold that the same is true for more "difficulty" options. And no, I don't want another "I need a map or I'll get lost" game. TL DR: No, I don't want another NES Battletoads/Castlevania difficulty level game. After the first playtrough, I could just get to the part where the decisions change the ending, no annoying battles, no impossible-to-beat enemies, just you and the result of hard work for the first playtrough. I enjoyed it's New game+ because I was entering in a part time job and had school by the morning, so I had little time at night to play. I don't want to have to remember every singular step to pass that annoying boss, I don't want to spend an entire night leveling up an character just to get to that specific part of the game where I don't have to do anything besides get beat by the secret boss.Ĭhrono Trigger was among the last games I played for SNES. I just come from work, and want to have some time of mindless fun, shooting in COD, exploding in Split/Second and playing through Gears of War. Back in the day I could struggle the entire day in Ninja Gaiden, grind for an entire weekend in Dragon Quest, get lost several times in Phantasy Star II and still be happy and enjoy that. The problem, at least for me, is that I really don't have the time and patience to play like when I was 10yo. People these days are used to easy games, so any difficult above average is a plus. I can understand the downvotes for my other post. If all the enemies were made like Black Omen's and increasing from there, I'd not finish the game more than 2 times. What if all of the NG+ enemies were made as powerful as the ones on the Black Omen?Ĭhrono Trigger was a trailblazer in a lot of ways and is very important historically, but I feel it's far from the perfect game a lot of people seem to make it out to be. Plenty of other games offer alternate endings in more interesting ways. Yeah, I get that it's there for the sake of providing multiple endings, but the actual process of playing through the game a second time to get those endings isn't actually enjoyable. Once I've beaten a game once, I'd rather go through it with additional challenge, not less. I just don't see the appeal in playing through a game multiple times on what amounts to an ultra-easy mode. Yeah, the battles go faster and you don't have to grind, but absolutely nothing in the game is a challenge anymore barring maybe Giga Gaia and Lavos. I mean, I liked Chrono Trigger, and on paper it sounds great, but in the end I feel like playing through the game on NG+ is tedious busywork.
